One Great Hour of Sharing

One Great Hour of Sharing is the lenten offering of the United Church of Christ that supports disaster, refugee, and development actions for people in the United States and throughout the world.   Since the closing years of World War II, One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) has raised funds to support domestic and international development, fight poverty and its consequences, and bring aid and relief to communities torn by war or ravaged by natural disaster.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 6:9–10:  So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all…   He wrote these words to the church in Galatia to assure them of the power of God’s Spirit to strengthen them to persist in the work of being generous in caring for others.

Because of this offering, the United Church of Christ has been able to provide hope when situations seemed hopeless.  Providing fresh water, food, medicine, education, and opportunities for sustainable development for people escaping natural disasters — wildfires, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods.   Delivering shelter and sustenance to refugees fleeing war and violence. Your offering, our offering, can reach across the globe, offering a hand up to anyone in need.

This offering will be collected on Sunday, March 19.  Gifts may be shared at any time through our church or by going to their website  .   Thank you.
